A girl, identified as Asmaa Abdul Qader al-Othman, was shot dead on November 5, 2023, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel who opened fire indiscriminately at a checkpoint in Abu Hamam town in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate, in response to an attack on the checkpoint by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that through this killing, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
