On February 8, 2025, a boy, identified as 15-year-old Anas al-Mohammad was killed, while another, identified as 13-year-old Diya al-Din al-Said, was injured by the explosion of a landmine of unidentified source as the two were looking for desert truffles in Kabajeb district in southern Deir Ez-Zour. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR calls on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities in protecting civilians in their areas and identify the locations of landmines and remove them. We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from landmine explosions. Landmines pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives for years to come in these areas, particularly children.
