On January 12, 2025, the dead body of Sheikh Omar al-Houri, from al-Midan neighborhood in Damascus city was found bearing gunshot wounds in Jobar neighborhood in Damascus city. Sheikh Omar had been abducted by unidentified individuals a few days before his dead body was found. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to identify which party is responsible for Sheikh Omar’s death as of this writing. The controlling forces must uphold their responsibilities in identifying his killers.
