On January 13, 2025, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) used a rocket launcher to fire multiple rockets at al-Khafsa town in eastern rural Aleppo governorate, killing one local girl, identified as the 15-year-old daughter of Abd Hmoud al-Sayel, while her parents were injured. The attack also partially destroyed a number of houses. The area is under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this attack, SDF has unequivocally violated UN Security Council resolutions 2139 and 2254, which prohibit indiscriminate attacks.
The SDF has also violated the rules of international humanitarian law on distinguishing between civilians and fighters, which only aims to spread panic among civilians.
