On September 27, 2024, a man, identified as 27-year-old Yasser Mohammad al-Labbad from al-Sanamayn city in northern rural Daraa governorate was killed, while his wife was injured, by unidentified gunmen who shot them in Yasser’s home city. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Yasser had worked after 2018 with an armed group affiliated with the Syrian regime’s Military Security Intelligence branch for less than year. He lived as a civilian after that; however; he had been accused of working in the drug trade.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the investigation’s findings known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
