A 35-year-old man, identified as Khaled Jamil Nabbou, from Kemariya village, administratively affiliated with Sherawa Subdistrict in the rural area of Afrin in northern Aleppo governorate, was shot dead on December 24, 2023, by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify on an agricultural road between Nebbel town and al-Zeyara village in Sherawa subdistrict in the rural areas of Afrin city, while on his way back from the regime-held Nebbel town to al-Zeyara village, which is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The area where Khaled was killed is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the investigation’s findings known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
