The body of Maher Mesleh al-Hilal, from Daman village, which is administratively affiliated with al-Bseira city in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was found on November 15, 2022, bearing signs of gunshots, by local residents in al-Ahmar village, also in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The area is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

As of this writing, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has been unable to identify the party responsible for the victim’s death; however, the controlling party, which bears responsibility in revealing who is responsible for his death, has launched no investigation in to the killing, which raises suspicions of its involvement.
