Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate was subjected to attack by several missiles on January 20, 2022. Although SNHR has so far been unable to definitively confirm the attackers’ identity, we believe that the attack was carried out either by Syrian regime forces or Syrian Democratic Forces, as the bombardment originated from an area under both parties’ control, with our investigations ongoing to determine responsibility.
In addition to the massacre inflicted in the attack, which SNHR reported upon, one of the missiles also hit al Ittihad al Arabi School on the city’s Villat Street, partially damaging the school building and damaging the furniture inside.
