On March 19, 2025, Israeli occupation forces, supported by heavy machinery, carried out an incursion near al-Nasiriya village, located on the administrative border between the governorates of Daraa and Quneitra. The operation was conducted without prior announcement, causing mass anxiety among local residents.

The incursion targeted the abandoned “Abu Darwish” military post, which had been vacant since the fall of Bashar al-Assad on December 8, 2024. Israeli occupation forces completely demolished the site.

This incursion is part of Israel’s repeated military operations aimed at imposing a new security reality through ground operations that threaten local populations and further escalate tensions in the region.

According to initial reports, the operation did not result in direct confrontations, but it created a state of fear and anxiety among residents, especially amid growing concerns that such incursions may continue. The targeted area is under the control of the Syrian transitional government and has been administered by a new civilian authority since the fall of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024.

This operation constitutes a clear violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and a breach of international law, including Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity of any member state. The continued Israeli incursions into border areas pose a direct threat to the security of civilian populations and increase the likelihood of forced displacement or the imposition of illegal military arrangements in the region.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) calls on the United Nations and the international community to take urgent action to end these repeated violations, ensure respect for Syria’s sovereignty, and protect civilians from practices that could lead to forced demographic changes or the imposition of a new occupation reality.
