(This update does not mean that new killings were recorded today or yesterday, as the security situation has calmed down significantly. Rather, these are cases that occurred primarily on March 6, 7, 8, and 9. We were unable to record them due to the enormous challenges we mentioned in our detailed report, including the inability to reach or communicate with distant villages, the security situation, and other challenges.)
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has documented the extrajudicial killing of 1034 individuals between March 6 and March 15, 2025, categorized as follows:
Killings by Remnants of the Assad Regime (Armed Groups Operating Outside State Control)
First: At least 439 individuals were killed by these groups, distributed as follows:
- 211 members of the General Security Forces.
- 228
Killings by Armed Forces Engaged in Military Operations Against the Regime’s Remnants.
Second: These forces include (factions and unregulated groups nominally affiliated with the Ministry of Defense), who were responsible for the deaths of at least 595 individuals. This total comprises both civilians and disarmed members of the remnants of the Assad regime. The majority of these killings were carried out by military factions that recently joined the General Security Directorate.
Distinguishing between civilians and disarmed remnants of the Assad regime remains extremely challenging, as many remnants were dressed in civilian attire.
Clarification
It is important to note that this death toll does not include casualties from armed clashes involving the remnants of the Assad regime (armed groups outside state control), as such fatalities are not classified as violations of international law.
