An elder man, identified as 75-year-old Anwar Ahmad Nasrou from Burj al-Qas village in the rural areas of Afrin city in northern rural Aleppo governorate, died on July 3, 2024, of wounds sustained two days earlier, July 1, 2024, from a landmine of as yet unidentified source that exploded while he was working on an agricultural land in the vicinity of his home village. He was then transferred to a hospital in Aleppo city for treatment. However, he subsequently died from his injuries. The area is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in areas under their control, and to locate and remove landmines planted in these areas. We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from landmine explosions, which pose a serious, long-term threat, especially to children, that will last for years to come.
