On January 30, 2024, heavy rainfall caused material damage to camps housing internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Marea town in northern rural Aleppo governorate. The rainwater formed large pools of muddy water which entered 50 tents in the camps of Sandaf, al-Abboud, al-Eidou, and Hour al-Nahar, causing some moderate and partial damage to the tents and their contents. The area is under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that that these repeated occurrences further worsen the already dire living conditions of IDPs, exacerbating their existing hardships. We urge international relief organizations, including the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), to urgently respond to the camps’ basic needs, and provide the camps’ administration with additional tens for emergencies.
