On July 9, 2023, the body of a man, identified as Balal Naji al-Falah from al-Jarthi village in eastern Deir Ez-Zour who worked in oil investment, was found by local residents in his hometown bearing knife wounds.

The area is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to identify Bilal’s killers as of this writing. The controlling forces bear responsibility for identifying his killers.
