Nourhan Mustafa al-Batran, a 16-year-old female middle school student from all-Mahsna village which is administratively part of Manbej city in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, was abducted for military conscription on April 1, 2023, for conscription purposes by the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) al-Shabiba al-Thawriya, (Revolutionary Youth) faction, also known as the ‘Joanne Schurchkar’, from a tuition center for middle and high school students in Manbej city after she was lured by a female member of al-Shabiba al-Thawriya fwho works in the center. The girl was taken to an SDF recruitment center in Aleppo governorate.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that Khaleda’s family has not been notified of what has happened to her, and she is forbidden to contact or visit them. We have concerns that she will be forced to participate in direct and indirect military action.

It should be noted that approximately 231 children are currently conscripted in SDF military training camps.
