Adel al-Qta’na, from al-Laja town in eastern Daraa governorate, was shot dead on April 8, 2023, by gunmen we have not been able to identify in front of the tent where he lived in the vicinity of Inkhil city in northern Daraa.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Adel, who never joined any military faction, was employed as a guard for a well in the area, which is administratively a part of Inkhil city in northern Daraa.
The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. SNHR is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas and to investigate this incident and make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
