A 13-year-old girl named Jelan al-Sheikh Souf, from the Tareaq al-Yasti neighborhood in the east end of Manbej city in Aleppo governorate’s eastern suburbs, was abducted for military conscription on March 25, 2023, by the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) al-Shabiba al-Thawriya, (Revolutionary Youth) faction, also known as the ‘Joanne Schurchkar’, after being lured by a woman to a detention center in Tareaq al-Yasti neighborhood. She was taken to an SDF recruitment center in Aleppo governorate.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that the girl’s family has not been notified of what happened to her, and she has not been allowed to contact or visit them. We have concerns that she will be forced into direct and indirect military action.
It should be noted that approximately 213 children are currently conscripted in SDF military training camps.
