The body of Wael Ahmad al-Rajab, a 28-year-old man from Talbisa city in the northern suburbs of Homs governorate, was found by local residents near the That al-Sawari School in the city’s al-Kurdiya neighbourhood on January 19, 2023, bearing gunshot wounds and signs of torture. He had agreed to a security settlement with the Syrian regime in June 2018. The Syrian Network for Human Rights has not been able to identify the party responsible for Wael’s murder as of this writing, with the controlling forces bearing responsibility for identifying his killers. However, the fact that the controlling forces in the area have launched no investigation into the case, raises suspicions of their involvement in the killing.
