Hassan Ali Abdul Qader, an eight-year-old boy eight from Tal Ref’at city in northern Aleppo governorate, was killed and three of his siblings. also children, were wounded on January 11, 2023 by the explosion of a live shell left over from previous bombardment whose source we have not yet been able to identify. The shell had been mistakenly put into the house heater with other items of scavenged garbage now commonly used for heating. The family’s home is located in the village of Kherbet Nadah, east of Izaz city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, which is under the control of the Syrian National Army.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights stresses that such leftover munitions and weapons remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives. We have released numerous reports on the issue of cluster munitions and other weapon remnants, in which we called for the provision of the equipment required to help local residents with removing explosive remnants.
