Ali al-Yassin, a nine-year-old boy, was killed, and his mother wounded, on November 1, 2022, by a landmine whose source has not yet been identified, near a landfill area on the outskirts of al-Masrab village in the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The village is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

SNHR is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities to protect civilians living in areas under their control, to disclose the locations of landmines, and to work on properly removing them.

We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from landmine explosions, with these mines continuing to pose a serious threat to the lives of residents, especially children, that will last for years.
