A thirteen-year-old child, Abdi Ali al Abdi al Hwaisan, from Ja’da al Sam’wat village east of Manbej city in eastern Aleppo governorate, was killed and two of his siblings, children, were wounded on July 5, 2022 by the explosion of a landmine planted by unknown parties while they were playing at the Euphrates River bank in the village, which is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces.

SNHR is still trying to reach witnesses of that incident to get more details.

We demand that the controlling regime forces bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and that they determine the locations of mines planted there and remove them.

We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries as a result of mine explosions; these munitions will continue to constitute a severe threat to the population of these areas in years to come, especially to children.
