On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, local residents found the body of Osama Kalthoum, a young man from Wadi al-Dhahab Neighborhood in Homs, in an irrigation canal near the Ta’minat Housing Complex in al-Nour Neighborhood of Homs, an area under the control of the transitional government. Gunshot wounds were found on his body.

According to information gathered by SNHR from reliable local sources, Osama was abducted on Tuesday, April 29, by an armed group in a white van. The group raided his location on al-Ahram Street in Wadi al-Dhahab Neighborhood, before his body was found the next day.

SNHR continues to investigate the circumstances of the incident and gather more information. At the time of writing, the identity of the party responsible for the crime has not been confirmed.

SNHR calls on the transitional government to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities to protect civilians in the areas under its control and to open a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the incident with the aim of uncovering and holding the perpetrators accountable.
