A man, identified as Mohammad Ahmad Hussein al-Ibeid was killed on March 25, 2025, by the explosion of a landmine of unidentified source while disarming landmines in the badiya ‘desert area’ of Mahkan town in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from landmine explosions. Landmines pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives for years to come in these areas, particularly children.
