On March 2, 2025, the dead body of a man, identified as 45-year-old Ghiath Ibrahim al-Ali from Birin village in western rural Hama governorate who worked at al-Zara Thermal Power Station, was found by local residents near the train railway on the outskirts of Birin village. Ghiath had been abducted on the same day by unidentified gunmen. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to identify who is responsible for Ghiath’s death as of this writing. The controlling forces must uphold their responsibilities in identifying his killers.
