On January 19, 2025, the body of a man, identified as Sha’ban al-Abd al-Hajji from al-Assadiya village in northern rural Raqqa governorate, was found bearing signs of torture and wounds indicating he was stabbed by a sharp blade by local residents near al-Samra road in eastern rural Raqqa governorate. The body of Sha’ban, who worked in real estate, was found two days after he had been abducted by unidentified gunmen at Hazima Roundabout in Raqqa city on January 17, 2025. The area is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to determine who was responsible for Sha’ban’s death as of this writing. The controlling forces must uphold their responsibilities in identifying their killers.
