On January 15, 2025, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) used a kamikaze drone to target a gathering of civilians in front of a shop in Rasm al-Harmal village, administratively a part of Deir Hafer city, in eastern rural Aleppo governorate. The attack killed a local man, identified as Majed al-Shebli, and injured another, identified as Yahya Tawfiq al-Bazi. The area targeted is under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that SDF has unequivocally violated UN Security Council resolutions 2139 and 2254, both of which call for ending indiscriminate attacks.
SDF has also violated international humanitarian law by failing to distinguish between civilians and fighters, causing mass panic among civilians.
