On December 29, 2024, the body of a man, identified as 23-year-old Mahmoud Qasem al-Mthayyeb from al-Shajara town in western rural Daraa governorate who worked in agriculture, was found bearing gunshot wounds in the head by local residents inside a well in the vicinity of al-Shajara town. Mahmoud’s body was found after he had gone missing two days earlier. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Mahmoud is a civilian who has never been involved with any military formation.
SNHR has not yet been able to identify which party is responsible for Mahmoud’s death as of this writing. The controlling forces must uphold their responsibilities in identifying his killers.
