Two boy siblings, identified as 10-year-old Ghaith and eight-year-old Laith Marwan Fnekher from Rural Damascus governorate who lived in al-Sanamayn city in northern rural Daraa governorate, were killed on December 15, 2024, by the explosion of a hand grenade as they were playing with it in their family’s house in al-Sanamayn city after they had found it in the street. The two boys’ mother was slightly injured in the explosion as well. The area is under the control of the new Syrian authorities.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We also condemn the unchecked circulation of weapons among civilian populations with no restrictions or regulations. The controlling forces must contain and address this issue.
