On December 13, 2024, the body of a man, identified as Tareq Nathir al-Shoufi from Ous village in southern rural Suwayda governorate, was found bearing gunshot wounds by locals in the National Hospital in Suwayda city. Tareq had gone missing one week before his body was found on December 13. The area was under the control of Assad regime forces when he was declared missing.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Tareq was a civilian who was not affiliated with any military formation
SNHR has not yet been able to identify which party is responsible for Tareq’s death as of this writing. The new Syrian authorities must uphold their responsibilities in identifying his killers.
