Mustafa al-Kurdi, a 25-year-old media worker from Aleppo city, commonly known as Mustafa al-Sarout, worked as a reporter for Focus Aleppo Magazine and as a photographer for TRT, was shot and killed on November 30, 2024, by Syrian regime forces when the car he was in entered al-Ashrafiya neighborhood in Aleppo city. The area is under the control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-sham (HTS).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Syrian regime forces have, through this act of killing, violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
