On June 11, 2024, the body of a man, identified as Shoufan Hassoun al-Aziz from al-Jbiliya village in western rural Daraa governorate, was found bearing torture signs by local residents on the road connecting Tafas city and Jillen town in western Daraa governorate. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Shoufan had been a member of armed opposition factions in Daraa before regime forces took control of the city in July 2018, at which time he agreed to settle his security situation with the Syrian regime. He has completely retired from military life ever since, living as a civilian until his death.

SNHR has not yet been able to identify Shoufan’s killers as of this writing, with the controlling forces bearing responsibility for identifying his killers.
