On March 2, 2024, the body of a man identified as Khleif al-Daoud al-Mohammad, bearing gunshot wounds and signs of torture, was found by local residents in the desert or ‘badiya’ of al-Sukkariya in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate. Khleif, from al-Sayyal village in the countryside around al-Boukamal city in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was abducted in February 2024, with his kidnappers demanding ransom money for his release. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to identify Khleif’s killers, with the controlling forces bearing responsibility for identifying his killers.
