A civilian, identified as 19-year-old Mohammad Ismail al-Othman, died on February 8, 2024, of wounds sustained two days before, on February 6, 2024, when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in al-Sanamayn in northern rural Daraa governorate. The intended target of the IED was a Syrian regime serviceman, named as Walid al-Atman. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses and survivors to obtain more information about the incident.

SNHR condemns all bombings targeting residential areas. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
