A boy, identified as Huthaifa Saleh al-Khalaf, was severely injured on February 5, 2024, by the explosion of war remnants of as yet unidentified source in al-Ashara city in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate. Huthaifa’s left hand had to be amputated as a result of the injury, and he was transferred to a hospital for treatment. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that war remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives. We have released numerous reports on cluster munitions and other war remnants, calling for securing equipment to help local residents to safely dispose of the various explosive remnants.
