On September 6, 2023, a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) artillery detachment fired multiple shells at Oulshalli village in Manbij city in eastern Aleppo governorate, with several of the shells hitting the Omar bin al-Khattab Mosque in the village, causing massive damage and partially destroying the building. The area is under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that this incident occurred amid ongoing clashes between the SDF and Deir Ez-Zour Military Council backed by Arab tribes, which broke out on August 29, 2023.

SNHR condemns all attacks on vital civilian facilities and populated areas. We hold the SDF responsible for this attack and call on it to launch an investigation into the incident and hold those responsible accountable.
