A 26-year-old agricultural worker, identified as Mohammad Awad al-Ayed from Karim al-Janoubi village in eastern rural Daraa governorate, was shot dead on August 23, 2023, by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify who shot him from a passing motorbike on the road connecting the villages of Karim al-Janoubi and Sha’ara in al-Lajat, also in eastern Daraa governorate.

The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.

26-y.o. Mohammad al-Ayed was shot dead on Aug 23 by unidentified gunmen who shot him from a motorbike on the road between the villages of Karim al-Janoubi and Sha’ara in al-Lajat, E. Daraa.
