A man identified as Malik al-Hussein al-Attaya, who worked as a fuel trader, was shot dead on August 10, 2023, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel during a raid on his home in al-Mwyleh village in northern Deir Ez-Zour governorate, when he was hit in crossfire that broke out as they were attempting to arrest him.
The area is under the control of the SDF. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this act and similar ones, SDF has violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
