On July 30, 2023, the body of Ibeid al-Aqqal, a shepherd, was found, bearing gunshot wounds, by local residents in the ‘badiya’ (desert) of Ma’dan Ateeq in western Deir Ez-Zour governorate. Ibeid had been abducted on July 28, two days before his body was found, by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify, who also stole 400 sheep, on the road connecting the badiyas of al-Tebni and Ma’dan Ateeq in western rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate.
The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to identify the killers as of this writing. The controlling forces bear responsibility for identifying his killers.
