A 25-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Sheikhna from Tareeq Jarablos neighborhood in northern Manbij city in eastern rural Aleppo, was killed on July 25, 2023, when a tunnel used for transporting military equipment in rural Hasaka governorate near the Syrian-Iraqi border collapsed on top of him while he was working on excavating it. It should be noted that although Ibrahim was a civilian, he was put to work by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) digging military tunnels.

The area is under the control of the SDF. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this act of negligence that led to Ibrahim’s death, the SDF has violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.

Civil activist Ahmad Othman was arrested by HTS on July 27, 2023, near his house in his home city of Idlib & taken to an undisclosed location. SNHR fears he may be tortured. For more: https://news.snhr.org/?p=115063
