On June 7, 2023, the body of a woman, identified as 30-year-old Houriya al-Assaf from Manbej city in the northeastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, was discovered by local residents in agricultural land near al-Ghassaniya School in Manbej city a few hours after she went missing in mysterious circumstances. She had been stabbed repeatedly in the chest.

The area is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has been unable to identify Houriya’s killer/s as of this writing. The controlling forces bear responsibility for identifying her killer or killers.
