Four civilians; identified as Ahmad Abdul Ghany Bajqa, his two sons Abdul Ghany and Mohammad al-Bajqa from Talbisa city in the northern suburbs of Homs, and Zakarya Khaled Sha’ban from al-Sha’baniya village in Homs suburbs; were killed on June 6, 2023, by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify who shot them at close range while they were harvesting wheat in the Tadmur ‘badiya’ (desert area) near al-Tanf area in the eastern suburbs of Homs. The gunmen proceeded then to set the harvesting machinery belonging to one of the victims on fire. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces and pro-regime Iranian militias.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
