Media activist Ahmad Fa’our al-Saa’di, from al- Mzayreeb town in western Daraa governorate, was shot dead near his home on April 3, 2023, by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Ahmad had with an armed opposition faction before the Syrian regime took back control of Daraa governorate in 2018, after which he began working with the Shahed Media Institution and as a reporter for a local news website, 18 Athar (18 March).

The area is currently under the control of Syrian regime forces. SNHR is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas and to investigate this incident and make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a concrete timetable.
