On March 20, 2023, four Kurdish men, identified as 43-year-old Farhan al-Din Othman, 42-year-old Mohammad Othman, 38-year-old Nathmi Othman, and 18-year-old Mohammad Farah al-Din Othman, were shot dead by members of the Syrian National Army’s (SNA) ‘Faseel al-Sharqiya’ (the Sharqiya Faction’). The victims, all civilians, were killed while they were building a fire as part of the celebrations for the Kurdish New Year, known as Nowruz, near al-Sena’iya city in Jendeires town, which is administratively a part of Afrin city, in northwestern Aleppo governorate.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that, through these killings, the SNA has violated international human rights law, and that the perpetrators must be held accountable.
