Hadla al-Hamada, a 30-year-old woman from the village of al-Asfar village in the northeastern suburbs of Suwayda governorate, who worked as a cattle herder with her husband, was shot dead on February 25, 2023, by unidentified gunmen who stormed the tent where the couple lived with their family on the outskirts of Seda town in the eastern suburbs of Daraa. The gunmen also shot the couple’s daughter in one hand in the attack before abducting Hadla’s husband, who had suffered gunshot injuries to his feet in a previous attack, taking him to an undisclosed location. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR condemns all attacks on and killing of civilians. We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians living in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this crime and make its details known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a true political transition process to implement democracy under a fixed timetable.
