Two brothers, Ahmad and Eid al-Bardan, aged 30 and 32 respectively, from al-Qasr village in the northeastern suburbs of Suwayda, were killed on February 26, 2023, by a landmine whose source we have not been able to identify while they were riding a motorbike in the Qaa al-Banat area in the badiya (desert area) around al-Suwayda. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities to protect civilians in their areas, and to locate and remove landmines planted in these areas. We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries from the explosion of landmines, which pose a long-term, serious threat, especially to children, which will last for years to come.
