Mohammad Khlouf al-Karjoun, 11-year-old child from al-Husayniya town in the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was killed on February 23, 2023, by a land mine whose source we have not been able to identify in his hometown, which is under the control of Syrian regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities to protect civilians in their areas, and to locate and remove landmines planted in these areas. We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from the explosion of landmines, which pose a long-term, serious threat, especially to children, which will last for years to come.
