Ryad Assad al-Hadri al-Iliwil al-Hassan and Sayyaf Mohammad al-Khadr al-Iliwi al-Hassan, two eight-year-old children from al-Dwayyer town in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour, were killed, and a third child from the same family was critically injuredon January 15, 2023,by an explosion whose source we have not been able to identify (although we believe it was a landmine) while they were herding sheep near al-Dwayyer town, which is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians living in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this incident and make its details known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a true political transition process to implement democracy under a concrete timetable.
