Yousef al-Turki, child aged 15, from al-Mray’iya village in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was killed on December 20, 2022, by a landmine whose source we have not been yet able to identify in in the village, which is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities to protect civilians living in areas under their control, to disclose the locations of landmines, and to work on properly removing them.

We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from landmine explosions, with these mines continuing to pose a serious threat to the lives of residents, especially children, that will last for years.
