Forty-five-year-old Omar Muhammad Salam, from al Kasib village in al Suwaida governorate eastern suburbs, was arrested by Syrian regime forces at Damascus International Airport in Damascus city on October 1, 2022, on his return from Libya. He was taken to an undisclosed location.

The arrest wasn’t carried out according to a court warrant, and his family members weren’t informed of his detention, with the Syrian regime forces’ personnel confiscating the detainee’s phone and refusing to allow him to contact any other family members or any lawyers. We fear he may be subjected to torture and go on to be forcibly disappeared, as has happened in the cases of 85% of detainees.

SNHR calls for financial and psychological restitution for all Syrian regime forces’ victims and their families, as well as for an end to all arbitrary detentions that spread fear and terror in society and blackmail detainees’ families, and demands that the fate of thousands of individuals forcibly disappeared by the Syrian regime forces be revealed as we fear for their fate.
