Nibal Abdul Majid al Bqairat, a 35-year-old woman from Tal Shehab town in western Daraa governorate, was killed, while four of her children, and two of her brothers-in-law were wounded, by the explosion of an IED from an unknown source inside her home in Tafas city in Daraa governorate western suburbs, on July 17, 2022.

The city is under Syrian regime forces’ control. SNHR notes that the victim’s husband, Eyad Ja’ara, was formerly the leader of an armed opposition faction. SNHR has so far been unable to determine how the IED was planted inside the house and is still trying to reach out to witnesses and survivors of the incident to obtain more details.

SNHR condemns all explosions that target civilians and calls on the controlling forces to assume their responsibility for protecting civilians in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this incident and reveal its conclusions to the public. There will be no stability in Syria without a genuine political process moving towards democracy, implemented according to a set timetable.
