Ahmad Musa al Ghanem, born in 1958, from Mashrafa Abdul Karim village of Khafsa town in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, was arrested by Syrian regime forces on May 5, 2022, in a raid on his home in the village and he was placed in Aleppo Central Prison. On July 1, 2022, Syrian regime forces informed his family of his death at Aleppo University Hospital and released his body to his family on the same day. SNHR has information that Ahmad suffered from renal insufficiency before his arrest, and he recently returned from Saudi Arabia for treatment, therefore it is highly likely that Ahmad died due to lack and negligence of medical care.

We can confirm that 132,667 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in Syrian regime forces detention centers. We fear for their fate in light of the spread of COVID-19.

SNHR notes that 14,464 Syrian citizens are documented as having died due to torture inside the Syrian regime’s detention centers.
